Mauritius, formally known as the Republic of Mauritius, is an island republic in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of Africa. It’s a volcanic island with lagoons and palm-fringed beaches that’s surrounded by coral reefs for the most part. The colonial conflicts interlaced with an exchange of cultures resulted in a hybrid society breathing out a vibrant display of different features as dramatic as its historical terrain, laced with the stories of migratory slaves. Not only is the Mauritian history fascinating, but the topography is as well. Sapphire oceans, sand-colored beaches, and a Creole cuisine and culture influenced by the Indian, Chinese, African, and European immigrants that call the island home.
