FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Bora Bora is best visited for three to four days. This allows you plenty of time to explore this lovely island and all of the green hues the water has to offer. If you have more time, you will enjoy spending it here as well; however, keep in mind that Bora Bora is French Polynesia’s most expensive island.

Bora Bora is not a low-cost or low-budget destination! Many visitors come to Bora Bora to stay in a five-star resort or an overwater bungalow. These resorts are typically lovely but exceedingly pricey (beginning rates for a single night are sometimes around €500). Because these resorts are generally on their own own island or motu, the majority of your meals will be taken there as well. A supper in a luxury resort should cost between €40 and €50 per person. On top of that, you’ll have to pay for your flights, which aren’t cheap! Activities planned at a Bora Bora overwater bungalow resort are likewise expensive. So, if you’re looking for a luxurious holiday, Bora Bora is the place to go.

Bora Bora is one of French Polynesia’s islands. French Polynesia is a French overseas collectivity made up of 118 islands. French Polynesia is located in the Pacific Ocean, almost halfway between New Zealand and the United States. The 118 islands of French Polynesia cover a land area of more than 4000 square kilometres. This means that if you wish to travel from the most eastern to the most western island, it will take you roughly 2000 kilometres. The distance between Amsterdam and Athens is the same! There are five groups of these 118 islands. Bora Bora is a member of the Society Islands group of islands. Bora Bora is only a 50-minute flight from Papeete, French Polynesia’s capital on the island of Tahiti.

Because Bora Bora is part of the Society Islands group and is near to Tahiti, it is best to fly to Tahiti first (at the Papeete airport) and then take a transfer flight to Bora Bora. Flying to Papeete can take a long time depending on where you are coming from. Bora Bora is 50 minutes away from Papeete.

You will take the free boat from Bora Bora’s airport, which is located on a different island, to the main harbour. If you are staying at one of Bora Bora’s premium resorts, you will most likely be picked up from the airport by your hotel.

THINGS TO DO IN BORA BORA

  1. A lagoon trip, which includes shark and stingray snorkelling.

Swimming with sharks and stingrays was one of the most terrifying and exciting experiences of my life! Go on a lagoon tour and saw the magnificent waters of Bora Bora, visit numerous motus, and swim with sharks and stingrays. Many black tip reef sharks thrive in the shallow seas of Bora Bora. They are not at all hazardous to humans. The creatures are all white and about a metre long. The stingray is another water creature that can be found here. They’re also harmless, yet they can sting you with their venomous tail on rare occasions.

  1. Scuba diving in Bora Bora’s lagoon

Bora Bora’s waterways are teeming with fish. Nurse sharks, reef sharks, hammerhead sharks, mantarays, and stingrays, as well as whales and dolphins, can all be seen when diving.

  1. Ride your bike around the island.

Biking is the best way to independently discover Bora Bora! A 32-kilometer-long asphalted road runs around the entire major island of Bora Bora. The most breathtaking views of the paradisal island and the motus may be found all along the road. Cycling to the south will take you to lovely beaches, to the north will take you to nature and tranquillity, and to the east will take you off the main road. For approximately €12, you can rent a bike for the day.

  1. Hiking or mountain climbing in Bora Bora

Bora Bora is an island formed from the ashes of a volcano. This is readily apparent while seeing Bora Bora from afar: a steep mountain with two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, can be seen. Mount Otemanu, at 727 metres above sea level, is the highest point. Mount Otemanu is too steep to climb, however Mount Pahia can be visited. This is only for seasoned mountaineers. e are not climbers and prefer to hike instead. There are numerous walking pathways on Bora Bora. Locals say the Valley of the Kings trail is one of the most picturesque in the area. It is recommended that you take a local guide on these excursions and only hike in dry weather for your own safety. Obtain a local guide by asking around in town. You have the best chance of locating one in Vaitape, the capital city.

  1. Watching whales in Bora Bora!

Humpback whales can be found in the waters of Bora Bora between July and October. These lovely creatures have come to breed and give birth to young whales (calves). Whales can be seen in Bora Bora because they approach close to the coast. Around September, you have the best chance of seeing them. Unfortunately, we visited Bora Bora in February and thus missed out on seeing whales. However, one of our ambitions is to return during the summer and experience this natural wonder. There are a variety of whale-watching tours available. We strongly advise you to interact with these creatures in a courteous manner at all times. Please join an animal-friendly tour that follows the eco and environmental standards for keeping a safe distance from these wild animals.
